Sam Raimi is considering undertaking a fourth film in the Spiderman franchise, but is uncertain whether the cast will return, as they were only contractually obliged to complete three films.

The Spiderman and Evil Dead director has confirmed that he would be interested in continuing the superhero saga after this summer’s Spiderman 3.

“I love Spiderman and I love working with Kirsten, Tobey and James [Franco],” Raimi told Premiere magazine. “I’m still really fascinated with the character.” But Raimi added that he would be unlikely to make a fourth film without the returning cast. “I’d rather not……” he said. “I couldn’t imagine it.”

Tobey Maguire has only signed on for three films and is reportedly reluctant about continuing his role as Peter Parker/Spiderman.  Raimi has signed up for each film individually and his boyhood fondness for the character has ensured his utmost dedication to the fans throughout the franchise. He explains that it was the fans he was thinking of when he decided to feature Venom in the Spiderman 3.

“I read the comic books in the ‘70s, where it was Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio and Vulture,” Raimi said. “It wasn’t until the late 80s that Venom came about. But Avi Arad [the former chairman and CEO of Marvel Studios] said ‘I’m telling you, they’re waiting for him. Don’t be selfish. Spiderman is everyone’s myth, not just yours.”

Raimi is currently putting the final touches to Spiderman 3, which is set for release in May. No official plans for another sequel have been announced by Sony Pictures or any of the cast, but with the first two films taking in more than $750 million dollars at the US Box Office, there might be life in the old Spider yet.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)

Bill:Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
The Bride:Of course he did.
Bill:Why didn't you tell me?
The Bride:I don't know... because I'm a bad person.
Bill:No. You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person, but every once in a while, you can be a real cunt.
