Clooney to produce Grisham’s latest

George Clooney has bought the rights to John Grisham’s first non-fiction book, The Innocent Man: Murder And Injustice In A Small Town.

Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov will produce the film version of the novel, but Clooney has confirmed that he will not be acting in it.

The Innocent Man details the story of Ron Williamson, who was wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of a young woman from his home town,
Ada, Oklahoma.

Williamson was sentenced to death in 1987 and it wasn’t until 1999 that evidence emerged that proved his innocence. Williamson was then exonerated and freed but died of cirrhosis of the liver in December 2004.

And what better man to helm the project than that cinematic golden-boy George Clooney, who hasn’t made a bad film since he donned Batman’s muscle suit in 1997. Except for Ocean’s 12. 2005 was definitely the year of Clooney as his directorial debut Good Night and Good Luck turned out to be both an excellent film and an introspective social commentary of America in the 50s. 2005 also saw Clooney nab his first Oscar for his performance as a weary CIA agent in Syriana.

The Innocent Man will be the first cinematic adaptation of a John Grisham novel since 2003’s entertaining Runaway Jury. We’re not counting Christmas with the Kranks. There are currently no writer or director attached to the project.

Quote of the Day

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)

Bill:Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
The Bride:Of course he did.
Bill:Why didn't you tell me?
The Bride:I don't know... because I'm a bad person.
Bill:No. You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person, but every once in a while, you can be a real cunt.
