Beverly Hills Donkey

Paramount will be making another Beverly Hills Cop movie, the studio announced this week. Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in the fourth instalment of the franchise.

The first two films, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, were an enormous box office success in the 80s but the series suffered from a poor audience reaction and diminished takings with Beverly Hills Cop 3 in 1994.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. “Axel Foley is one of the great action-comedy characters, a character that Eddie loves. I’m lucky enough to help bring it back,” said di Bonaventura. “This genre is missing from the landscape.”

The film could be a vital boost to Murphy’s career, which has suffered from the spate of rubbish that he has starred in over the past decade. Apart from his superb voice-acting in Shrek, Murphy is responsible for helming such cinematic abominations as The Haunted Mansion, Daddy Day Care and The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Positive word of mouth about his role in the upcoming DreamGirls would indicate that now is the best time for the comedian to remind audiences of his unique comedic ability and rejuvenate a failing career.

The film will join the ranks of the recent abundance of 80s franchises that have been greenlit for sequels. 2007 will mark the year of 80s nostalgia as our cinemas will show Die Hard 4, Rocky 6, Rambo 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers. They’ve also made a film of Dallas for some reason. Looks like that MacGyver movie we’ve all been waiting for might not be such a pipe dream. Let’s hope that mullet can fit in widescreen.

Quote of the Day

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)

Bill:Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
The Bride:Of course he did.
Bill:Why didn't you tell me?
The Bride:I don't know... because I'm a bad person.
Bill:No. You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person, but every once in a while, you can be a real cunt.
