One director to rule them all

Peter Jackson will not be directing The Hobbit, it emerged yesterday. According to a statement released by Jackson and co-writer Fran Walsh, New Line Cinema has informed him that his services will not be required in the creation of the prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The decision to drop Jackson from the project allegedly stems from the ongoing lawsuit that
Jackson’s production company Wingnut films filed against New Line Cinema in June 2005. The suit claims that New Line committed fraud in its handling of the revenues generated by The Fellowship of the Ring and as a result, Jackson was underpaid by millions of dollars.

In a letter to the fans on, Jackson and Walsh apologise to the fans that their involvement with the making of The Hobbit has ended in such a away and wish the new makers of the film the best of luck.

Peter Jackson said in his statement, “Our journey into Tolkien’s world started with a phone call from Ken Kamins to Harvey Weinstein in Nov 1995 and ended with a phone call from Mark Ordesky to Ken in Nov 2006. It has been a great 11 years.” New Line’s decision has effectively put an end to an amazing era of cinematic history.

Jackson’s vision of “The Lord of the Rings” was undoubtedly one of the greatest cinematic achievements in the history of the big screen and will hopefully remain so in the minds of future generations of cinema-goers.
Jackson sums it up best in the end of his heart-felt letter to the fans, “It has been a great 11 years…. We got to go there – but not back again.”

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)

Bill:Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
The Bride:Of course he did.
Bill:Why didn't you tell me?
The Bride:I don't know... because I'm a bad person.
Bill:No. You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person, but every once in a while, you can be a real cunt.
